- Tuning: Like other 1.8T variants, the ARY can easily reach 210–225 hp with a Stage 1 ECU remap. The stock internals are generally considered safe up to approximately 300–350 hp before forged rods are required.
- Oil Sludge: A critical maintenance point; using high-quality synthetic oil and regular changes is essential to prevent the oil pickup pipe from clogging.
- Timing Belt: Must be replaced along with the water pump every 60,000 to 90,000 km to prevent catastrophic engine failure.
- Coil Packs: A known weak point that can cause misfires; many owners upgrade to later “red top” R8-style coils for better reliability.
